Where to Find the Best Coupons

If you haven’t seen TLC’s latest show, Extreme Couponing, you’re missing out on quite a spectacle. To give you an idea, these bargain shoppers frequently pay less than 10 percent of their grocery bills, most of which are greater than $500. That’s a lot of free stuff! But one question many consumers have, especially when watching this show, is where to actually find these coupons. We’ve taken the guesswork out of “couponing” with our list of the top five places to find coupons:

1. Sunday Paper

This is usually where most consumers find coupons, and for good reason. The Sunday paper is full of inserts with manufacturer coupons from various sources, like SmartSource and RedPlum and even specific brand names, like Proctor & Gamble or KRAFT. If you want to be extreme, you can go “dumpster diving” (yes, literally going through dumpsters and recycling bins to find coupons) or stop at gas stations, bookstores and your neighbor’s house to pick up extra copies.

2. In-Store Coupons

Although most of the weekly ads put out by grocery stores only advertise what’s on sale that week, often times you will find additional coupons in the circular. It’s also a good idea to hit up customer service to ask for store coupons, which can only be used at that specific store. But don’t stop there. As you’re perusing the aisles, keep your eyes peeled for those peel off coupons and blinking dispensers that provide savings for specific items.

3. eCoupons

4. Mobile Coupons

Another seamless way to avoid paper cuts is to take advantage of your Smartphone with mobile coupon apps and texts. Text “OFFERS” to Target (827438) to receive mobile coupons to use on your next visit or check out to receive mobile coupons via text message.

5. Social Media

Finally, never underestimate the power of social media when it comes to couponing. Whether you follow your favorite brands and stores on Twitter or are a “fan” on Facebook, social media is a great way to score savings that most people don’t know about. If you don’t have time to follow 20 different brands, just follow Coupon Tweet and/or Cheap Tweet, which pool the best deals on the web into one spot!
